As you all know our Head Pupils were elected by the children in July. They were presented with their badges in this week’s Welcome Back Assembly. This week all pupils voted for their Pupil Leaders in their classes, and we now (almost) have our full complement of Pupil Leaders which will form our Pupil Leadership Team for 2024-2025. Later in the Autumn Term, EYFS will also join. Well done to everyone that put themselves forward for the role.
Our Early Aces Breakfast Club is from 7:50am-8:35am Monday to Friday. This is extremely popular and is bookable via the Pupil Asset Portal.
After school sports clubs and our wrap around care is delivered by Premier Education. This half term, Dodgeball will be offered on a Monday, Netball on a Thursday and Gymnastics on a Friday. Wrap Around Care is available Monday to Friday and runs from 3:15 to 5:30pm. Please visit their website for more information and to book.
Our Summer break started with 2 full weeks of offering the Holiday and Food Program at school. This was followed by 4 weeks of exceptionally hard work by staff, volunteers and contractors. It’s been so wonderful to see all of our children return and enjoy these continued developments at the Academy. The learning environments have continued to be further TRANSFORMED for our pupils, visitors and staff. A special thank you to everyone that has helped us to achieve so much again!
Our Holiday Fun program ran again between the 22nd July to the 2nd August. This was a huge success with Upwell Academy pupils and pupils further afield visiting daily to enjoy fun-filled days which included a vast range of activities including archery, rounders, team games, arts and crafts, dance and more.
Our EYFS children and children from Little Sunshines were thrilled to meet the Deputy Mayor Janet Tansfield along with Councillor, Peter Human who joined us on Friday to open our Fun Day event.
One of the true highlights of week was our traditional sports day. Reintroduced last year, we welcomed the best turn out of families ever, who joined us to cheer on our children. They enjoyed a wide range of events from track racing, hurdles and sack races to the tug-of-war!
The fun did not stop there! Our Friends of School Association (FOSA) drummed up support from our children for their SPLASH-TASTIC finale, which saw Academy Committee member, Mr Hartley enjoyed getting soaked by staff!
On Wednesday the rain really arrived. Thankfully, that did not stop us! Throughout the day, every class enjoyed specialist dance classes which included both contemporary and classical dance.
Our wonderful Kitchen Manager, Sarah Goodrum, made a healthy smoothie with every child.
We were paid an inspiring visit by a well-known sporting duo – and all pupils tried their hand at a very tough (but fun) workout!
The excitement didn’t stop there! All pupils experienced some of the best football coaching we have seen from Upwell Town Football Club Coach, Mr Best. These sessions saw the children developing new skills and practising drills and the slight drizzle of rain did not put any of them off. The feedback from pupils was astounding, especially from those that have not previously had an interest in football.
The week kicked off with Healthy Cooking Sessions for all. Our focus on giving the children opportunities to learn different culinary skills and provide tools that can support both their mental health and wellbeing.
