Year R 

We have been really stretching our brains this week. We have been using tangrams to create our own pictures, as well as trying to recreate pictures already made using the tangram shapes...it was very tricky. In English we have been using Jim and the Beanstalk as our text and we have been writing lists and letters to the giant. In science, we have continued to look after our seeds and beans and our runner beans are almost touching the ceiling in the classroom. We started our set 3 sounds this week and so far we have learnt ‘ea’ - cup of tea and ‘oi’ - spoil the boy.  

The most exciting thing happened as well this week....7 eggs arrived in an incubator....we cannot wait to find out if and what will hatch!  

  

Year 1  

It has been another lovely week in Rousseau class. When playing golf in our PE lesson we worked on using a chipper to hit the ball. We definitely have some natural golf swings in the class! In Maths we have been making a quarter of a shape and finding a quarter of a quantity. We know that this means an amount is split into 4 equal groups. In English we wrote our final descriptive pieces. We have worked really hard on them and it was wonderful that each of us had a different story. In PSHE this week we looked at what it means to be healthy and what healthy eating is. We then created a diagram of a healthy and balanced packed lunch. 

 

Year 2 

We have had a really great week this week in Richard Long Class. Alongside completion of our Key Stage 1 SAT challenges, we have been so unbelievably busy. In maths this week we have been looking at a variety of reasoning questions, including shape, space and measure. We have also been telling the time. We will continue with this over the next couple of weeks but this is something that you can really help with at home because it is a tricky concept for children to learn. In English we have researched our chosen animals and begun to collate details about their habitats, diets and where they are in the food chain.  In PSHE we carried on thinking about initiative and how when making decisions we need to sometimes use our initiative. Our Music continued with the theme of Rock and we listened to and appraised Chuck Berry’s ‘Jonny B Goode’. 

Yesterday, we all took part in Quidditch. The children absolutely loved it and I was really impressed by their Quidditch skills and today we are enjoying ‘Break the Rules!’ Day.  

The staff and I cannot tell you how proud we are of all of the children in Year 2, they have shown significant resilience, independence and enjoyment! Well done :) 

 

Year 3 

We have had a really exciting week this week. Yesterday we all took part in Quidditch. The children absolutely loved it and I was really impressed by their Quidditch skills. In maths this week we have been looking at the relationship between units of time. We have also been telling the time. We will continue with this over the next couple of weeks but this is something that you can really help with at home because it is a tricky concept for children to learn. I will also put a time challenge on Sumdog. In English we have created our own 'creature' character that James could have met inside the peach. In RE we have been finding out about the Qur'an. In PSHE we carried on thinking about effective communication skills. We found out about William Shakespeare and why he is famous in history. For our French this week we were practising our numbers and learning the names for some household items. We have also started to do some assessments this week, which we have been working really hard at. 

 

Year 4 

What fun we have had this week! 
In English, we have started to write different sections of our science fiction stories, putting all of our previous English skills into practise. 
Our focus in Maths has been on graphs - both being able to draw information given to us and interpreting data. We have all been really good at this. 
Our space theme continues in Science, and we look forward to performing our assembly later today - it's going to be out of this world! 
Finally, we must not forget our Harry Potter day, which was fantastic. We learnt to play a variety of games to strengthen our team building skills.

Year 5 

This week, Year 5 have been learning to perform poetry by T.S. Eliot from his book 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats'. We reall enjoyed learning our lines for The Old Gumbie Cat and even attempted writing our own verses for the poem, in the style of T.S. Eliot. In Maths, we have been learning about the properties of shapes and have also been spending some time revising other areas of maths such as fractions and percentages. In History, we have learned about Bastille Day which is celebrated by the French following the storming of the Bastille, in Paris, during the French Revolution. On Thursday, Year 5 had a fantastic time playing Quidditch as part of our Harry Potter day. Miss Riches also enjoyed taking part as the golden snitch! We developed some great team building skills too! 

Next week, we will be completing our reading, arithmetic and GPS (grammar, punctuation & spelling) assessments so please keep an eye out for some Sumdog challenges to complete over the weekend in addition to your reading and regular timestables and spelling practice!

Year 6 

What a busy week we have had, I can’t believe it is Friday once more. In English this week, the children have produced some great pieces of writing based on the Michael Morpurgo classic Kensuke’s Kingdom. We have also been working hard on our editing and uplevelling – to make our writing the best it can be! In Maths, we have completed a project based upon the use of calculators in Maths, how/when they are useful and their different functions. We were very luck to have an addition PE session Yesterday. The children absolutely loved the Quidditch, thank you Mrs Norman, even if they did get a little bit over competitive.  

Next week, we are looking forward to celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee and finding out more about her reign. 

Please continue to practice those key skills at home; reading, spelling & times tables. These will put you in a great position for your transition to Secondary School.
