Year R  

 Another super busy week in Teddy class. On Monday we started to innovate our own versions of ‘The Lighthouse Kepper’s Lunch’ and I have to say the writing so far is amazing. I am so very proud. In maths we have used the story ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing’ as a challenge to solve number of legs in a tangle if there were 3 animals, 12 animals etc. They really had to think hard to solve these puzzles. In science we have continued to learn about floating and sinking and in history we learnt about the sinking of the Titanic. In PE we practiced for sports day and they were all fab, it iis going to be a great event, and if all this isn’t enough, we learnt two more set 3 sounds. ‘Ur’ – nurse with a purse and ‘er’ – a better letter.  Have a wonderful weekend! 

 

Year 1  

It has been a busy week with our class assembly! We practise a lot and worked really hard. We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed sharing it. In English this week we have been learning the story of Little Red Riding Hood and exploring the speech in the story. We are also beginning to innovate some of the character’s so that we can create our own story. This week in Maths we have been looking at money! We have been identifying coins and notes and adding different amounts to buy something from the ‘toy shop’. 

 

Year 2: 

We had an exciting week. Our English research project on animals started the week with the hatching of two beautiful chicks which sparked the discussion of lifecycles and how different species take care of their young. We had a go at writing a short acrostic poem in English too, which was fun. In maths we have tried a new Year 3 method for adding called the column method. Mrs Preston was very Impressed with how well we did. 

As part of our Eco Science Project to protect our planet, the children have been out on the school grounds collecting and disposing of the litter and making things safe for the wildlife that visits here. WE also researched and discovered the dangers litter can have for many animals including in the sea and we have begun to make posters to try to prevent it.  

In Music, we have continued with Reggae style and our focus song was I. G. Y. by Donald Fagen making us all feel ‘chilled’. The instruments also came out and we are now accompanying our Zootime song with chime bars, xylophones and tambourines. PSHE continues on the theme of Organisation, with the class looking at the benefits of an organised environment. 

Monday is our school sports day so please come in prepared for lots of physical fun! 

 

Year 5 

This week, Year 5 have been working extremely hard during their English and Maths lessons with Mrs Johnson in the mornings. In Science, we have been learning about Charles Darwin's the 'Theory of Evolution' and looked specifically at his research regarding finches on the Galapagos Islands. In PSHE this week, we had a very interesting lesson learning about the dangers of tobacco and smoking. We continued our geography lessons learning about East Anglia and focused mainly on the Fens this week. In history, we continued to learn about the experiences of slaves upon their arrival to the Americas and we are intrigued to find out more about the abolition of the slave trade in our next lesson! We have had lots of fun making a start on our entrepreneur day posters in preparation for next Thursday and are all excited for sports day.

Year 6 

Another busy week for Year 6, this week the Wisbech Lions came in to judge our International Peace Poster entries. Well done to Kalina (winner) and Jess (runner-up). We have also been busy writing report comments and memories. Learning our Leavers’ Assembly songs and I will warn you now, the last one is an emotional one! We have also concluded our science topic learning about the different animal classifications and microorganisms. This afternoon, we had a visit from Bev Ireland from DMA who answered lots of key questions the children had about going to high school. This week the children also received their lovely leavers’ hoodies from FOSA. Thank you to FOSA for organising these, they are a lovely gift for the children! 

The weeks are now getting busier and busier with lots of exciting opportunities for the children. Please keep a close eye on dojo for up-to-date information and reminders. If you are attending high school transition days, please remember you need to inform the office.
