Weekly Update 09/12/22

Weekly Update 09th December 2022

Year R

I’m not sure I have the words to say how proud I am of each and every one of them on completing their first school nativity. It was an absolute success. To do this they have learnt words, moves, songs, stage directions, how to project their voices and sign language. We have overcome fears and nerves and thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did the staff and audiences too. Thank you everyone involved.

We also finished learning our set 1 sounds this week and our new sounds for this week are: x – down an arm and leg and repeat the other side, ng – thing on a string and nk – I think I stink. We were lucky enough to have two amazing visitors this week. We had a visit from Rudolph’s twin brother Randolph who read us a story and we also had Father Christmas himself, who asked us to persuade him that they deserved a present by writing him a letter to tell him what good things they had done this year. In maths we have continued making numbers in different ways and continued consolidating subitizing and cardinality.

We finished our very busy week off by watching ‘The Polar Express’ in our pyjamas today as we definitely deserved some much-needed down time. Have a lovely weekend.

Year 1

We have had a whirlwind of a week!

We have been incredibly busy with our Nativity performance. There are definitely some budding actors amongst us but we are incredibly proud of how everyone did. We hoped you enjoyed it too! We have had two exciting visitors in school this week! On Monday, Santa appeared in our assembly. He told us we needed to write him a letter to persuade him that we deserved presents. We completed some of our best writing yet, and I’m sure we managed to persuade him. On Thursday, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’s twin brother Randolph came to visit! He read us the real story of his brother Rudolph.

We had a lovely end to the week with our Polar Express Day, we thoroughly enjoyed coming to school in our pyjamas and even got some popcorn to watch the movie with!

I cannot believe next week is the last week before Christmas!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Year 2

We have had a marvellous week. The highlight was having parents and carers visit on Tuesday afternoon to enjoy our Christmas Performance of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’. I was extremely proud that all of us had overcome our nerves, learnt our lines and ultimately performed so confidently. We had practised projecting our voices so that we can clearly be heard. Thank you again for joining us. In mathematics this week we have been exploring shape and patterns and used tangrams to create pictures. In English we have been using adventurous vocabulary and writing Space and Christmas Acrostics.

In RE we have looked at why we celebrate Christmas and retold the Christmas story , writing the story in our words.

As you’re aware, we have been doing lots of singing in class and have thoroughly enjoyed singing the carols and beginning to really get into the Christmas spirit. We are looking forward to our Polar Express day today and we have got started on making our Christmas cards. We all looking forward to an even busier and more Christmassy week next week. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Only one more week until Christmas!

Year 3

It has been a really busy week and we are starting to feel very festive. We have watched both Year 2 and Year 1 and Reception’s performances this week, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We have made Egyptian collars in art and have also started some papyrus pictures. In English we have written scenes for The Three Little Pigs. We completed some Christmas themed times table work for our maths. We had a special visitor on Monday who asked us to write him some letters, which we have done. The children have tried really hard with these and have produced some excellent pieces of writing. In French we have learnt how to say how old we are. We have completed our end of unit tasks and quizzes in geography and science. We found out about hieroglyphics in history and tried out writing using them. We have been doing lots of singing in class and have also been practising for Monday’s Carol Concert. We are looking forward to our Polar Express day today and we are planning to get started on making our Christmas cards. And we all looking forward to an even busier and more Christmassy week next week.

Year 4

We’ve had another busy week. It was fantastic to watch the Year 2 and Year 1 and Rs performances. We were really impressed with their loud, clear voices and beautiful singing. Hopefully our singing will be as good on Monday. We have been practising a lot. We have been multiplying 2 digit numbers by one digit in maths. In English we wrote letters to Santa telling him how we have worked hard and been helpful this year. He came to our assembly on Monday to ask us to do this. On Thursday he sent one of his reindeer, called Randalph, to read us a story. In Geography we have been making a poster to show where people could visit if they went to Northern Ireland. We found about the first Roman Emperor, Augustus, in history. We thought about whether we would like to live in Roman times. We agreed the baths were a good idea but we didn’t want to be made slaves!

We have our Christmas tree up in class with our decorations on. Our Christmas cards are nearly finished too. Our class elf Peter has been very naughty. We caught him trying to open all the Christmas cards on our post box this morning.

Year 6

I cannot believe there is only one more week until Christmas; where has the Autumn term gone?

This week, we have been busy proofreading and editing our short stories. Then writing out our final copies. We have continued our unit on shape and angles, looking at the properties of 2D & 3D shapes and the different types of angles.

Christmas is in full swing, we have thorough enjoyed watching Year 2, Year 1 and Reception’s Nativity performances and we have been working hard to learn all of the lyrics of our songs for the concert on Monday. On Monday, in assembly we had e a special visit from Father Christmas, who asked all the children to write him a letter. We have been working hard on planning, drafting and editing these in class. We will finish our neat copy to post off, next week. Today, we really enjoyed watching Polar Express, thank you FOSA for our bracelets and treats.

Homework for the coming week will be; Sumdog, Spelling & Reading. I would like to look through the homework books, these will be back after Christmas.

Please note: There are no after-school booster sessions next week. As always keep a close eye on the School Story for events/timings & celebrations.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, thank you for your continued support.
