We celebrated this year’s Harvest with a Special Harvest Festival Assembly on Thursday led by Raine Tharrold, our Academy Committee member.
Every year group from Reception to Year 6 attended, with children having carefully rehearsed a story, reading or poem to perform to a large audience of Reception Class parents, staff and their peers. We had the most delightful performance of ‘I’m a Dingly Dangly Scare Crow’ from all of our Reception Class children.
Harvest Festivals are an annual tradition that in the UK, date back to Pagan times, and are rooted in thanks given for a successful or bountiful harvest. It is a time for reflection and thanksgiving for the ample food we are fortunate enough to grow or buy, and enjoy. At Upwell this year we have used our Harvest Festival as an opportunity to collect and donate food to the local Food Bank, in support of the fantastic work that they do to provide much needed meals to those in need.
We are unbelievably grateful to you all for donating to the cause and Wisbech Food Bank have passed their thanks to FOSA, our children and you all and said that this will go a long way to support local people in crisis.
Thank you!
